It’s that time of the year again when eight teams compete in what has become a global sensation. The 12th edition of Indian Premiere League (IPL) will commence from 23rd March 2019. With the IPL teams being completely revamped and new players vying for the coveted title, this year’s IPL is sure to be very different from the previous editions. Let’s look at the IPL 2019 schedule and other fun facts about this mega sporting event.

IPL 2019 Schedule – Full fixtures and timings for group stage IPL matches

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai in the opening IPL match on 23rd March 2019. All teams will play seven home matches each.

IPL has always stuck to the same format and usually on weekdays i.e. from Monday to Friday, a single match is played at 20.00 in the evening. On Saturdays and Sundays, two matches are schedule, one in the afternoon at 16.00 and the other in the evening at 20.00.

IPL 2019 Opening Ceremony

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that there will be no elaborate opening ceremony for IPL 2019. Instead, Military bands will perform before the opening match between CSK and RCB. The BCCI will also ensure the participation of all eight team captains. Representatives from the Indian Armed Forces have also been invited to attend the match.

The budget allocated to the opening ceremony i.e. approximately Rs. 20 crores will be contributed to the family of the Pulwama martyrs.

But, who have been the movers and shakers of this super league in the past ten years? Let’s have a look at some of the amazing IPL records:

  • Mumbai Indians has played and won the maximum number of matches. They have participated in 171 matches of which they have emerged as winners in 97 of them.
  • The highest team total is 263/5. It was scored by RCB in 2013 against Pune Warriors India.
  • The record for lowest team total also belongs to RCB. They scored it in 2017 against KKR.
  • The highest successful run chase is by Rajasthan Royals. They chased 217/7 in 2008 against Deccan Chargers.
  • In 2009, Chennai defended the lowest IPL score of 116/9 against Kings XI Punjab.
  • The record for largest victory margin in terms of runs belongs to Mumbai Indians. In 2017 they won by 146 runs against Delhi Daredevils.
  • Suresh Raina is the highest run scorer till date, having scored 4985 runs.
  • Highest individual score record belongs to Chris Gayle who scored 175 runs against Pune.
  • Chris Gayle has hit a whopping 292 sixes in the IPL.
  • Chris Gayle also holds the record for the fastest IPL century. On the way to his 100, he faced just 30 balls.
  • With 154 wickets, Lasith Malinga is the highest wicket-taker.
  • The record for 1st IPL hattrick belongs to Lakshmipathy Balaji.
  • Delhi Capitals has lost the maximum number of matches i.e. Delhi Capitals.

In the Indian subcontinent, IPL 2019 will be telecasted on Star Sports Network which will offer the coverage in six languages – Hindi, English, Telugu, Bengali, Tamil, and Kannada. All matches will be streamed live on Hotstar Website and app.
