It’s that time of the year again when eight teams compete in what has become a global sensation. The 14th edition of Indian Premiere League (IPL) will commence from 9th April 2021. With the IPL teams being completely revamped and new players vying for the coveted title, this year’s IPL is sure to be very different from the previous editions. Let’s look at the IPL 2021 schedule and other fun facts about this mega sporting event. Included below is not the IPL 2021 match list, but also the player and venue list.

IPL 2021 Schedule – Full fixtures and timings for group stage IPL matches

Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai in the opening IPL match on 9th April 2021. A total of 6 venues have been shortlisted for the tournament. These are:

  1. M. A. Chidambaram Stadium – Chennai
  2. Wankhede Stadium – Mumbai
  3. Narendra Modi Stadium – Ahmedabad
  4. Arun Jaitley Stadium – Delhi
  5. Eden Gardens – Kolkata
  6. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium – Bangalore

All 3 playoff matches and the final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. To avoid home advantage, no team is scheduled to play at their home venue in this season.

IPL has always stuck to the same format and usually on weekdays i.e. from Monday to Friday, a single match is played at 7.30 in the evening. On Saturdays and Sundays, two matches are schedule, one in the afternoon at 3.30 and the other in the evening at 7.30.

IPL 2021 Player Auction

The IPL 2021 auction was held in Chennai during which a total of 57 players were sold. Of the 57 players bought by 8 IPL franchises, 22 were overseas players and 35 were Indian players. Chris Morris became the most expensive player bought in the IPL Auction history. He was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a whopping sum of INR 16.25 crores.

  • Mumbai Indians has played and won the maximum number of matches. They have participated in 203 matches of which they have emerged as winners in 118 of them.
  • The highest team total is 263/5. It was scored by RCB in 2013 against Pune Warriors India.
  • The record for lowest team total also belongs to RCB. They scored just 49 in a 2017 match against KKR.
  • The highest successful run chase is by Rajasthan Royals. They chased 224 in 2020 against Punjab Kings.
  • In 2009, Chennai defended the lowest IPL score of 116/9 against Punjab Kings.
  • The record for largest victory margin in terms of runs belongs to Mumbai Indians. In 2017 they won by 146 runs against Delhi Capitals.
  • Virat Kohli is the highest run scorer till date, having scored 5878 runs.
  • Highest individual score record belongs to Chris Gayle who scored 175 runs against Pune.
  • Chris Gayle has hit a whopping 349 sixes in the IPL.
  • The maximum fours have been hit by Shikhar Dhawan. He has hit 591 fours.
  • Chris Gayle also holds the record for the fastest IPL century. On the way to his 100, he faced just 30 balls.
  • David Warner holds the record for maximum IPL fifties. He has hit 48 fifties.
  • Chris Gayle holds the record for maximum IPL centuries. He has hit 6 centuries.
  • With 170 wickets, Lasith Malinga is the highest wicket-taker.
  • The record for 1st IPL hattrick belongs to Lakshmipathy Balaji.
  • The record for maximum IPL hattricks is held by Amit Mishra. He has taken 3 hattricks.
  • Praveen Kumar has bowled most maiden overs in IPL. He has bowled 15 overs in which no run was scored.
  • Delhi Capitals has lost the maximum number of matches.
  • 13 IPL matches have been tied till date.
  • KL Rahul holds the record for the fastest fifty. He took just 14 balls to score a fifty against Punjab Kings.

IPL 2021 Live Streaming & TV Channels Telecast List

In the Indian subcontinent, IPL 2021 will be telecasted on Star Sports Network which will offer the coverage in six languages – Hindi, English, Telugu, Bengali, Tamil, and Kannada. All matches will be streamed live on Hotstar Website and app.

IPL Points Table 2021

As per the IPL 2021 Schedule released by the BCCI, the first match will be played on 9 April 2021. The four top ranked teams will qualify for the playoffs.

IPL 2021 Schedule – Playoffs

After 56 hard-fought matches, the top 4 teams will book their playoff berths in the 2021 Indian Premier League. The first Qualifier will be played on 25th May in Ahmedabad between the top 2 teams in the points table. The winner of the first Qualifier will advance to the final. The team that looses the first Qualifier will get a 2nd chance to qualify. They will play the winner of the Eliminator.

According to the IPL 2021 Schedule, the Eliminator will be played on 26th May between the teams placed 3rd and 4th in the points table. The team that loses this match will be knocked out of IPL 2021. The winning team will advance to the second qualifier and play against the team losing the first qualifier.

The team winning the second qualifier will then advance to the final and play the winner of the first qualifier.
