The announcement is outside and the major news is finally here. Flipkart and Asus join hands and bring the smartphone technologies at an unbelievable price for you. Flipkart was conducting exclusive hashtag campaigns on the website with the title #BigOnFlipkart and #OnlyOnFlipkart which suggested that the announcement could be seeing the launch of an smartphone with a display and bigger battery life. With many guesses moving up in the air the news came as a major surprise. With the latest 636 processor and attributes customized for markets that this Smartphone will take the market by storm. Both the brands together are going to launch something which is well worth the 27, as Asus is Flipkart the giant in E-Commerce and a technology giant. Landing page of Flipkart created a great deal of buzz around this announcement and suggested that a value added service might be declared which will be done by the 23rd of April. Asus and Flipkart announced their new partnership on stage – an exclusive long-term partnership to sell Asus phones in India. This will start on April 23 (next Monday) with the unveiling of the Zenfone Max Pro M1. Details are still scarce but the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset, a slightly less powerful version of the Snapdragon 660 (it still features an octa-core Kryo processor).

Going forward, Asus will collaborate with Flipkart to design phones for the Indian market based on consumer insights. Flipkart also unveiled a plan called “mobiles 40 by 20” or put in other words to account for 40% of smartphone sales in India by 2020. That would be about 100 million new buyers.

Flipkart Targets 40% Smartphone Market By 2020

Addressing the media, Ajay Veer Yadav, senior vice-president (mobiles), Flipkart, revealed that Flipkart has recorded 60% Y-o-Y growth in the smartphone retailing segment last year. With this, he claimed, every one in four smartphone sold in India, is sold through Flipkart.

For the segment growth, the company aims to focus on: local innovations to add offline customers, right customer base and long-term brand partnership. He also shared that Flipkart aims to touch 330 Mn smartphone user base by 2020 and gain 40% of the market share by then.

To add more perspective, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart revealed that Mobile and fashion contribute to half of etail market growth. By FY21, Indian ecommerce unicorn expects market to reach $50-60 Bn, where 55% would come from Mobiles and fashion.

Under its brand Billion, where the products are designed, engineered, manufactured and tested in India, Flipkart launched the Billion Capture+ smartphone in November 2017. The company claimed to have sold out the phone within 24 hours of its launch. In September 2017, during  Flipkart’s Big Billion Days, the company sold 1.3 Mn smartphones within the first 20 hours of the category opening for sale.
